 EMMA TERRAGROSSA
Hi there

I left SJC in 1981 and wondered if anybody remembered Emma Terragrossa - She was Spanish and left to return to Madrid in the 3rd Year (Miss Diamonds) Class.

I'm beginning to think she was a figment of my imagination!!!!!!!

A ny Comments let me know.

Emma Toragrosa

I remember her too - in Mrs Diamond's class we used to have poetry every Friday afternoon in the hall, and Emma would always write her own poems for it. They were pretty good as I recall! She had 2 plaits most days.

I have a vague recollection but as you say Rachel its as though its a figment of the imagination.
A few of us visited the site after it was demolished (I also stayed in touch with the nuns).
None of us can work out how the convent fitted in the area occupied by the demolished buildings. Even taking into account a child's perception being exaggerated, the site is still too small to contain the block where the music room, Sister Theresa's classroom, then Taylor, Diamond, Callan, then refrectory, finally the girls block and playground

I was in the same year as you Rachel and Emma. I'd forgotten that Emma recited her own poems! Thanks for reviving those types of memories that should persist but mysteriously disappear.

Do you remember a red haired girl named Carol (I think) who was learning to play the flute and Mrs O'Hallnan, the music teacher after Mrs Greatrex had her perform in the school hall and commended for performing on "such a difficult instrument". I play the flute. It is tough!

Some photos of the Mass commemorating the end of the Marist Fathers mission in Sidcup at our Romanesque church of St Lawrence's ending the 1911-2012 pastoral care and closing another part of our cultural heritage associated with the Convent & those Tuesday morning Masses. Tridentine if you were lucky, and old, enough Mass of Paul VI for us youngsters(!)

Friday, 22nd June 2012, Archbishop Peter visited St Lawrence's Church, Sidcup. He presided at a Mass of Thanksgiving for the ministry of the Marist Community, who have served the parish for 101 years left Sidcup in August August.

Joining the Archbishop and Marist concelebrants were Bishop Tom Burns of Menevia, himself a Marist who taught at their school in Sidcup, Bishop Paul and Monsignor Matthew Dickens.
