Remembrance Sunday 2018 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day

As with almost every other family I had relatives who served in the First and Second World War, as well as those before, between and after. I gave it a lot of consideration, and attended a naval college, the service arm I was not considering, but that's a different story. I still intend to join the RAF reserves, if they will have me.

History being one of many abiding interests, it is the preventability and consequences of war that is one of my most prominent concerns.  The First World War was avoidable, however some government ministers in Britain, France and Germany were intent on marching to war to obtain resolution in international power. Kaiser Wilhelm II was furious with his foreign minister when his manipulations escalated from intended German dominance to  igniting  war. Austria-Hungary drew Germany into war as a result of the Empire's failure to conquer Serbia. Germany then declared war on Russia, as Serbia was allied to Russia, and France due to agreements with Russia.

Instead of following the successful tactics of Bismarck, Ludendorff attempted to encircle Paris which provided enough time for Prime Minister Asquith to mobilise the British Expeditionary Force in rapid response to Belgium invoking the Treaty of London. A previous Liberal Prime Minister, Gladstone, had the approach to prevaricate until it was too late to intervene, which kept Britain out of the Franco-Prussian War. Asquith's rapid response  turned what should have been a fast victory for Germany into 4 years of carnage.

Clemenceau and the French demands in the Treaty of Versailles weakened the German economy, empowered the violent German Communist Party and far right groups, up to 1923, they then receded as the Republic defeated all far left uprisings and improved economy enfeebled the far right.

That was reversed in 1930 as the Wall Street Crash  spread across Europe. Democracy, the defender against extremism became the means to inflame the hard left and right, as the German government spent time  holding the coalition together at the expense of stabilising the plummeting economy

- the consequences began to be fulfilled 2 years later.

For the 100th anniversary the plan was to be filming part of Measure For Measure  movie at the park of my former naval college and at sunset conduct an Honour Salute with the Last Post played at sunset.

That will now be done at a later date and instead I am reciting  requiem prayers at the grave of a soldier  killed in the Battle of the Somme, then  playing the Last Post on a First World War  bugle.

The Prayers:

Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours
Requiem aeternam dona eiss Domine, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Requiescaant in pace. Amen.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

Ancient Christian Prayer from the Roman Catacombs
Pax, tibi, vobis, spiritui tuo, in aeternum, tibi cum angelis, cum sanctis; spiritus tuus in bono, sit, vivat, quiescat; aeterna lux tibi, in refrigerio esto; spiritum in refrigerium suscipiat dominus; deus tibi refrigeret; vivas, vivatis, in Deo, in Spirito, in sancto, in pace, im aeterno, inter sanctos, cum martyribus

Latin short  requiem prayer-
Salvator mundi, salva nos, qui per crucem et resurrectionem tuam liberasti nos.

Prayer for soldiers-
All-powerful and ever-living God, when Abraham left his native land and departed from his people You kept him safe through all his journeys. Protect these soldiers.
Be their constant companion and their strength in battle, their refuge in every adversity. Guide them, O Lord, that they may return home in safety. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

1549 from the Common Book of Prayer, did not appear in subsequent  editions

We commend into thy mercy all other thy servants, which are departed hence from us with the sign of faith and now do rest in the sleep of peace: grant unto them, we beseech thee, thy mercy and everlasting peace.

Ba'hai prayer for the dead  by Abdu’l-Bahá

O my God! O Thou forgiver of sins, bestower of gifts, dispeller of afflictions!
Verily, I beseech thee to forgive the sins of such as have abandoned the physical garment and have ascended to the spiritual world.
O my Lord! Purify them from trespasses, dispel their sorrows, and change their darkness into light. Cause them to enter the garden of happiness, cleanse them with the most pure water, and grant them to behold Thy splendors on the loftiest mount.

Orthodox  Prayer in English

O God of spirits and all flesh,
who have trampled down death,
made the devil powerless,
and given life to your world,
give rest, Lord, to the soul
of your servant (name) who has fallen asleep,
in a place of light,
in a place of green pasture,
in a place of refreshment,
from where pain, sorrow and sighing have fled.

As a good and loving God,
forgive every sin committed by him/her
in word, deed or thought;
for there is no one who lives and does not sin;
you alone are without sin,
your righteousness endures for ever,
and your law is truth.
For you are the resurrection, the life and the
repose
of your servant  who has fallen asleep,
Christ our God,
and to you we offer glory,
with your eternal Father
and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit,
now and ever and to the ages of ages. Amen.

King and our God.

 Grant this O Lord

Russian Kontakion of the Departed
Ancient Kiev chant

Give rest, O Christ, to thy servant with thy saints:
where sorrow and pain are no more;
neither sighing but life everlasting.
Thou only art immortal, the creator and maker of man:
and we are mortal formed from the dust of the earth,
and unto earth shall we return:
for so thou didst ordain,
when thou created me saying:
"Dust thou art und unto dust shalt thou return."
All we go down to the dust;
and weeping o'er the grave we make our song:
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

KONDAK 7/ KONTAKION 7

In the world, for a short time will be our separation. We bury you, as if in the field of grain, you grow your potatoes in another country. May the tares of your sins perish in the grave, and there the good will shine there, the seeds of good will bear imperishable fruit, the souls of the holy people sing: Alleluia.

 Av Harachamim

The Father of mercy who dwells on high
    in His great mercy
    will remember with compassion
    the pious, upright and blameless
the holy communities, who laid down their lives
for the sanctification of His name.
They were loved and pleasant in their lives
and in death they were not parted.
They were swifter than eagles and stronger than lions
to carry out the will of their Maker,
and the desire of their steadfast God.
May our Lord remember them for good
together with the other righteous of the world

and may He redress the spilled blood of His servants
as it is written in the Torah of Moses the man of God:
"O nations, make His people rejoice
for He will redress the blood of His servants
He will retaliate against His enemies
and appease His land and His people".
And through Your servants, the prophets it is written:
"Though I forgive, their bloodshed I shall not forgive
    When God dwells in Zion"
And in the Holy Writings it says:
"Why should the nations say, 'Where is their God?'"
Let it be known among the nations in our sight
that You avenge the spilled blood of Your servants.
And it says: "For He who exacts retribution for spilled blood
    remembers them
He does not forget the cry of the humble".
    And it says:
"He will execute judgement among the corpse-filled nations
    crushing the rulers of the mighty land;
from the brook by the wayside he will drink
then he will hold his head high

Verona Fathers (Comboni Mission) News September 2018

I maintain a news update on the Verona Fathers and the Marist Fathers who were both the Order's who oversaw the parish of St Lawrence's Sidcup 1901-2012 as part of the continuation of my journalist work
-Reverend Steve Armourae, Universal Life Church

                                                 OSCAR ROMERO NOW A SAINT

I remember the Archbishop's assassination. It was briefly on British news, a name amoung the many who had been killed and not broadcast from the El Salvador civil war. His murder was different. An archbishop but also shot in the back while  holding the Eucharist aloft; the most sacrilegious act of murder in a church.
He was assassinated on March 24 1980 and will be canonized on the 14 October in St Peter's Square by his fellow Latin American prelate, Pope Francis.
The Protestant Churches recognised him before Rome did, displaying him as  a martyr including  above the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey.
Archbishop Romero was one of the 75,000 who died between 1979 and 1992. Most of the human rights violations were committed by the Revolutionary Government Junta of El Salvador with a fewer number committed by the left wing rebel FMLN group.  USA Presidents Carter and Reagan gave military support to the junta.

Ab. Romero was a friend of the Liberation Theology priest Fr. Rutilio Grande (below).

Romero's appointment by Paul VI was welcomed by the government but with disappointment by Marxist sympathising priests.  On 12 March 1977 Fr. Rutilio was murdered by the government for his work and support of the rights of the people. Ab. Romero was deeply affected by the priest's murder and then denounced injustices committed in El Salvador. He made many openly condemnatory broadcasts on the Catholic Radio Station against injustice and stating the Church must defend human rights and justice.
One of his memorable remarks was:
"There are many things that can only be seen through the eyes that have cried."

 ERITREA
From July 8th to August 6th the Catholic Bishops of Eritrea with all the parishes, churches, chapels, convents and monasteries raised special prayers for peace. Eritrea has previously suffered severely during its civil war and a war with Ethiopia. Currently the country is under one of the most severe Press  and media censorship controls in the world.

CATHOLIC PRIESTS TARGETED FOR MURDER-
CENTRAL  AFRICAN REPUBLIC
At least 24 were killed when an armed group attacked the Notre Dame de Fatima, a Comboni Catholic church  in Bangui, the capital of the CAR in May.
Father Albert Tougoumale-Baba of the Verona's was amoung the victims. Fighting broke out when Moussa Emperor of the PK5 district self-defence militia was stopped by the police. Resisting arrest he was wounded. His men then attacked the security forces  and randomly attacked civilians in the mostly Christian district. The militia then attacked the church where Mass was being celebrated with gunfire and grenades.
A crowd of thousands attempted to taked Fr.. Albert's body to the presidential palace but were dispersed by police.
Cardinal Dieudonne Nzapalainga archbishop of Bangui  condemned the killings and appealed to the government and  MINUSCA (UN Mission in Central Africa) to investigate.

NIGERIA
Mbalom village, Gwer East Local Government Area, Benue State, located on the border between the mainly  Muslim north and Christian South of Ringer, another massacre occurred in. April.
The attack occurred at dawn mass  in the parish of St Agnatius Ukpor-Mbalom. Gunmen burst in and killed 19 including Father Jospeh Gor and Father Felix Tylaha.
After attacking the church, the criminals burnt more than 60 homes and hay lofts. The population fled tro another village for safety.  The bishops said the President, Muhammadu Buharu should stand down to prevent the nation collapsing further.  They continued that "terrorists have turned the vast parts of the Middle Belt into a massive graveyard."  In a long statement condemning the government's failure they also  stated the fear that the Faluni  rebels have returned to the area.

Fr Bernardin Brou and Fr. Theophile Ahi were forced off  the road by two armed men who demanded money. The priests were not carrying money, in response  the attackers opened fire mortally wounding Fr Bernadin before fleeing as another vehicle approached.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
Father  Etienne Sengiyumva  was murdered by the Mai Mai Nyatura militia having just celebrated Mass, a wedding and a baptism. According to Agence Franc-Presse from information supplied by the Goma diocese and Fr Gonzague Nzabnita.

Father Celestin Ngango of St Paul Karambi Parish was abducted  but later released unharmed after pressure from  local villagers. He was the sixth priest since 2012  in the eastern DRC to be abducted and one o fthe few abductees to be released.

MEXICO
Since 2012, 23 priests have been killed, with the violence increasing. In April  Fr Ruben Alcatara the Vicar General of Cautitlan Izalli was stabbed to death, Fr. Ruben Alcatara Diaz, Fr. Fabila Reyes,83, were murdered. Fr. Fabilia's family had paid a ransom of over  $100,000.

PHILIPPINES
Fr. Mark Ventura, 37, had  just celebrated Mass and was talking to children and the choir when a man  came forward and shot him twice. Fr. Mark was known for his anti-mining advocacies and helping the indigenous people  in the Gattran region.

NICARAGUAN NUN CALLS UPON THE WORLD
Sister Xiskya Valladares has appealed to the world's nations to intervene in the ongoing bloodshed in her country. Calling upon the international community to end their silece as the 6 million inhabitants  suffer she listed the  atrocities of President Daniel Ortega: children and families burned alive, people walking in the street gunned down,  sacrilege committed in churches, a wounded bishop, many arrested with out  judicial orders followed by torture.
She continues "When will you react?"..."I ask for diplomatic pressure: the condemnation of crimes of human injury."

BRAZIL  SISTER FRANCISCA ERBENIA de SOUSA

In Ceara, one of  the poorest and most violent states of Brazil, Sr. Francisca fights alongside the most oppressed in the area, women victims
of abuse, the youth and the farmers and fishermen.
The corruption of the government of Michel Temer has increased and particular afflicts youths of African decent.   Human rights that have been won are being overturned by the large number of Pentecostal MPs in parliament.  This facilitates oppression and violence.
Half of the population of women have suffered violence and the number of women murders is the fifth highest in the world.
Sr Francisca insists that to  liberate women through professional and financial independence.
The school called  Caritas has 126 schools covering 800 communities to provide education to the poor that excluded by the Brazilian system.  Taught  agriculture, cooperative commerce and conflict resolution they spend half of the school time applying the theory to their communities.
So far Caritas has educated over 17,000.  The majority of the pupils come from the  fishing villages, who are ignored by the central government and their problems with the fishing industry as a result of  water shortage.
Fisherwomen  are the most discriminated against as they are not given professional status and considered merely as 'companions.'
Ceara also suffers from a machismo and male dominated culture  that undermines  womens self-esteem and confidence. Sr. Francisca says it is this domination must be deconstructed and replaced by a new construction.  One of her methods is the use of women in the Old Testament  for the purpose of empowerment. "The attitude of Jesus was always to ask rather than to teach. It was the women he met who, in various ways, showed him how to approach reality, placing the person and the value of life at the centre."

St Joseph's and graveyards

A few months ago I got around to contacting Bexley Council,a place I slightly miss given that I am surrounded by farms and cows most of the time; that's not the problem, its that the land is so flat here.

I was inquiring about dead nuns! The council gave me locations for my convent's founder and headmistress plus names I had not heard of before.
On  Tuesday 7th August I returned to Kent first to look at my old naval college and discuss with the locals about filming part of the Hollywood scripted film I'm directing and working out the blocking with one of my fellow lead actor's in the film, as Shakespeare wrote that we have a fight and we were planning out how we were going to do it.
Then on Wednesday after going back to Greenhithe to discuss further matters, it was off to Sidcup to meet another former St Joseph's pupil and for us to go and look at Sr. Theresa.

Barry Wright was already at Sidcup train station, as I had gone on the Bexleyheath line from Gtreenhithe before realising my mistake. We have been in touch for a few years with me sending him photos of the convent. He has very fond memories of St Joseph's and of being in Sr. Theresa's Form V class

Psychological crashing more frequently

In the 8 and a half years since my sister's murder I have experienced fairly regular surges of psychological and more frequently physical symptoms; the latter being a daily occurrence for extended periods. Meanwhile the underlying symptoms are there continuously in the background, or often less so in the background.
This year has not improved and recently there have been 2 periods of physical  and some psychological symptoms without any precursors or anniversaries to aggravate the underlying condition.

For the last 3 weeks, out of nowhere, the sudden physical symptoms and disorientation psychologically have been present everyday to varying degrees. One of the effects while I try to function is a complete loss of interest in the Hollywood promo project. Haven't been able to do much as it is due to the symptoms, but no matter how hard I try I could not find any interest in working or proceeding with the project, only now I am beginning to battle through it.

Back to the Naval College

IMDB has the wrong year as my birth. If it was that year I would not have attended the naval college in Greenhithe as that closed a year after St Joseph's Convent. When I was there 87-88 the place was spiraling straight towards closure. We were threatened with immediate expulsion if we entered the shamefully neglected and dilapidated Ingress Abbey which stood next to my halls of residence.

Surrounded by corrugated sheeting this rather impressive manor house of Gothic and Moorish influences did not look the place that had stood opposite Queen Victoria entertaining the Shah of Persia and others in order to gain influence by seducing them with the then beauty of Greenhithe.

Best thing that happened to Ingress was my college closing in 1989! Property developers then moved in who have subsequently got a little megalomaniacal but they repaired the Abbey albeit in a generic style not befitting its former granduer.

Luckily a geological engineer and his wife, a singer, purchased Ingress Abbey and have made great improvements in restoring the house to its nineteenth century condition. When I was in the Abbey with classmates and not giving a damn about threats of expulsion, the place was such a mess that I turned back after banging my head a few times in the near dark. The others ventured further to what could be called a 'ballroom' actually simply a very large lounge on the first floor with moldings on the wall, or in 1987: no floor and mould  on the moldings.

A couple of weeks ago I  returned to Ingress to tell them about the college and what the place used to be like, about to fall down in parts. Ingress Abbey is now impressive, there is a memorial to the naval college & the squadron, however it focuses on the Worcester and not the other ships  or the earlier ship that was part of the college that fought at the Battle of the Nile as demonstrated by the college's Roll of Honour.

King Lear, and another Shakespeare via Hollywood

So [yes, it breaks grammatical rules but it sounds nice] I and people I work with filmed a few scenes/trailer shoot for the King Lear that was meant to be a small adaptation some years ago when I still lived and acted on the London stage but when I returned to it, beyond a sketch in late 2016, rapidly morphed into more me and less Shakespeare, albeit he's still in the script.

After filming in  Bristol the film went on hold as it became a much bigger project. Owning all the equipment  I am able to make feature films cheaply (as f.f. go) but unexpectedly people  like my writing and that led to Industry interest which resulted in larger budgets.
Another factor was collapsing twice out cold while filming because of Bernadette's murder; the condition aggravated by endless police failure and lies, and that I am a ticking time bomb; not my opinion, the assessment of the professionals.

In the summer I was approached to direct a Hollywood scripted version of another Shakespeare play. Hollywood! At this stage its a series of shoots of just scenes until next year.

JOHN WORBOYS TO BE RELEASED

The  horrific and mystifying news that the taxi driver who inflicted upon well over a hundred women: drugged, assaulted and raped will be released has been met with righteous  condemnation, questions and demands  by Yvette Cooper MP and others that the Parole Board's report be released.

There have been solicitors appearing on TV defending the release stating that Worboys has served his sentence for the crimes he was convicted for and was eligible for release 2 years ago.
His conviction was for:
One count of rape, five sexual assaults, one attempted assault and 12 drugging charges.

There were many other victims plus there are the victims who did not come forward. There are many legitimate reasons why victims do not go to the police:
they do want to relive the Hell by going through the court case which could last more than a year from when they give a statement to the police.
That they have had prior experience of the police either ignoring them or feigning concern and then doing nothing more. Again this is a traumatic experience that those who have not been through it  are unlikely to comprehend.
They do not want it to become publically known that they suffered this or to upset their family if they have good relations with their family.

The Parole Board and any review of the sentencing appear not to have taken this into consideration:
the conviction for rape should have carried a far longer sentence.  Also the drugging of women makes it clear that he intended many more rapes. The intent was NOT  taken into account in the sentencing as the sentencing would have been a life sentence; not necessarily a full life tariff as those are challenged in the Court of Appeal.

It is reported that in addition to the 12 drugging charges there are many more victims between 100-200. This comes from reliable lawyers who worked on the conviction of Worboys and have seen the documents which have not been made public.

Another factor for why Worboys should remain for many more years,+30 years in prison or the rest of  his life:
Victims of rape or violence can be scarred for years or life, while he will get freedom, they will still suffer what he did. The solicitor Harriet Wistrich  rightly stated that victims were still living  with what happened to them. 10 or more years on.

A friend of mine who was sexually abused as a child, fought for years the psychological trauma which periodically engulfed her in the worst depression. Despite close & loving relationship with  close friends, her brother and boyfriend and being very excited to be working with me on a stage play about Poland, she was Polish, she was plunged into yet another darkness which brought her to suicide. A close relative who should have cared turned out to be somewhat indifferent to what had happened to her and that  exacerbated the  pain of what a man had done to her years beforehand.

It was only in the last few years that the abuse of some of my relatives by their father became known  to me and a couple of other relatives. Some of those children, now adults +40 years are still psychologically traumatised,. One cousin was in the process of drinking herself to death because of the trauma. Their mother knew and did nothing.
We only found out when the police  asked a couple of questions about  underage sex far more recently.  The police did nothing. The MET police of South London ignored it.

When I was informed  I solicited murder- twice. He shortly after died of cancer  but did not suffer  in way approaching to what he had done to his children.  I only withhold his name for the privacy of his children.

Rape and violent assaults are not crimes that  exist only in the moment. For the victims it  means years and often a lifetime of psychological suffering.
This is what Worboys has done to these women. He should  remain in gaol.

STATEMENTS BY CPS:
19 more cases were not prosecuted as CPS said:
"It was not in the public interest."

A victim was told he would never be released since:
"He would remain a danger to women"

That the police did not pursue 102 more allegations has been evaded by the CPS
